News from St James' School
From the Headteacher - March 2008
BEARING WITNESS - The school has ordered a new school sign, which will be very prominent to all people entering the Riverside Estate. The sign will be in the school colours of Blue and Gold and will display a crucifix and shell. We hope that it will be up by the end of March.
SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY - The school will be celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary (150 years) year starting in the second half of the autumn term 2008 and ending in the summer term 2009. If you have any memories, photographs, pictures of the life of our school we would be very grateful to receive them – we can scan items and return them. Ideas to help celebrate the year would be most welcome. We are trying to find out the actual day that our school opened 150 years ago. If anyone could shed light on this date we would be very grateful.
EXCITING NEWS! – I am pleased to announce that the school has ordered a flexible staging system, which will greatly enhance our ability to provide high quality productions. My thanks go to ‘The Friends of Saint James' School’ for funding over half of this.
THANK YOU! – We now have 3 parishoners who regularly help out in school on a weekly basis. If you can spare a morning or afternoon on a regular basis, please do let us know. All helpers in school must go through the C.R.B. clearance procedures.
BUT WHAT DO WE CALL IT? – The school has a room between the Headteacher’s Office and The School Office. Over half-term the room was expertly redecorated by Peter Cracknell, our Site Manager. The vivid colour scheme was chosen by the Headteacher and it is now predicted that it will be known as ‘The Blue Room’.
THEME LUNCHES – Pupils enjoyed a ‘Shrove Tuesday’’ special lunch with pancakes for pudding and we are planning a ‘Lamb Meal’ to celebrate Easter.
CONTACT US! - Our Joke Page is proving popular with pupils in the school on our website. Why not surf our website and leave a message on our Guestbook Page? We look forward to hearing from you!
